Complete a handover

Check documentation, successor access, and remaining owners before marking a Flamekeeper handover case completed.

A completed handover should mean that the team can carry on with the work. Use this final check to make that decision deliberately.

Check readiness with the successor

  • Can the next owner explain the most important recurring tasks and upcoming deadlines?
  • Do active projects have a current status, next step, and named owner?
  • Are risks, exceptions, and escalation contacts documented?
  • Can the successor open the relevant runbooks, dashboards, and repositories through your organization's approved access process?
  • Have knowledgeable reviewers checked critical instructions?
  • Does every remaining action item have an owner and an agreed next step?

Walk through one real task together when possible. It often reveals assumptions that a document review misses.

Move the case through its stages

Open Case actions to see the transitions available for the current stage. From gathering information, choose Ready for review when the initial capture is ready. At review, you can choose Back to gathering information if gaps remain, or Move to documentation when it is time to prepare the handover materials.

In the documentation stage, Mark completed is available. Confirm readiness before using it. The menu varies by current status; completing a case is a separate step from approving an individual document.

Leave a usable record

Export the handover pack if your team needs a copy in its existing documentation system. Identify the location people should use and who will maintain that copy after the transition.

Keep payroll, equipment return, and access revocation in your organization's offboarding process. Flamekeeper supports knowledge retention and handover quality; the manager still coordinates the wider departure.

Keep the knowledge. Carry on with the work.
